Two for One at Ian Forsyth School – Dartmouth

This episode of PlayGround Chronicles is text light with lots of image content from a visit to the Ian Forsyth School Playground (photos). It’s one of several school playgrounds we’ve visited recently that have installed newer equipment and retained the older stock.

The New

The Not Quite as New

This approach is sure to be popular with the kids as they are able to double their enjoyment – keeping their connections with familiar favourites and exploring something fresh. If you’re not from the area, this is a great playground to pair up with a visit to Shubie Park.

Count ‘em, there are 2 three laner slides and plenty of monkey bar for those inclined to climb or swing acrobatically from their arms or legs.

The borderlands between the two playgrounds also offer a lot of fun with swings and a webbed 1 1/2 pyramid climber.

One of the components of the newer equipment, partially funded by KaBOOM! and the Home Depot Canada Foundation, that got Noah revved up is a small hand cranked auto raceway. He was zooming for the checkered flag again and again with the imaginary thrumm of high performance engines floating across the schoolyard.

All the play areas are surfaced with pebble gravel infill. There are lots of benches adjacent to the playgrounds. When school is not in session there is more than ample parking available on the premises. Depending on the time of day there is some shade at the newer playground, not much to speak at the older installation. There is a big sports field at the rear of the school for ball play and running around. We were the first on the scene during our morning visit a couple of weeks ago. By 10h30, four families had arrived.
